Cedar privacy fences define the streetscape from Waldo to the Northland, and Kansas City Fencing has been the crew that builds, repairs, and restores them since 2013.

When a fence leans, a gate drags, or a storm flattens a run of boards, homeowners in Kansas City and the surrounding areas call us. We show up with the same crew, assess what's actually broken, and tell you straight whether to repair or replace. We're AFA Member Installers, fully insured, and we know the fence line work in this market.

Fencing in Kansas City (64105)

Kansas City's single-family stock sits on varied terrain, and fence work here means understanding post spacing, racking versus stepped installation on slopes, and the difference between a tamped post and one set in concrete. Cedar privacy fence is the standard across the neighborhoods, and vinyl and chain link fill the gaps. Gates take real hardware and real hinges. Ornamental iron and aluminum fencing mark the higher-end properties. We've installed and repaired all of it.

We work from your existing survey and install on the line you identify. Before any digging, we coordinate Missouri 811 utility locates, which are required by law. Storm damage, leaning posts, rotted stringers, dragging gates, and pool barrier gaps are the emergencies we handle. Fence replacement and removal, staining and restoration, post repair, automatic driveway gates, and commercial or temporary fencing round out the scope. We've served Kansas City and the surrounding area since 2013, and we've learned what holds and what doesn't in this market.

How a Job Works in Kansas City

You call us at (816) 631-8814 or request a free on-site assessment. We come out, walk the fence line, look at the posts, rails, pickets, and hardware, and tell you what's wrong and what it will cost to fix or replace. Storm damage gets a free assessment. We ask about your HOA rules and any deed restrictions on height, material, or color, because those vary across Kansas City and the surrounding jurisdictions. We don't guess at property lines. You show us where you want the fence, and we work from there.

Once you approve the estimate, we schedule the work. Our crew handles the Missouri 811 utility locates, sets posts in concrete or tamped earth as the job requires, runs stringers and rails, installs pickets or boards (board-on-board, side-by-side, or racked for slopes), adds cap and trim, and hangs gates with self-closing and self-latching hardware where needed. For vinyl and ornamental metal, we follow the same care with tension bands, stretcher bars, and anti-sag bracing. We clean up as we go and do a final walkthrough with you before we leave.

Wood and privacy fence runs from $26 per linear foot. Vinyl and PVC start at $37 per foot. Chain link is $15 per foot. Ornamental iron and aluminum run $41 per foot. Pool fencing is $33 per foot. Farm and ranch fencing starts at $11 per foot. Gate installation and repair begin at $475. Automatic and driveway gates start at $2,800. Fence repair and post repair start at $450. Fence replacement and removal start at $2,300. Staining and restoration start at $900. Storm damage gets a free assessment. Commercial and temporary fencing quotes are free on site. Cost depends on linear footage, post spacing, materials (cedar versus pressure-treated pine, galvanized versus powder-coated hardware), gate type (cantilever or V-track), and site access. Call us at (816) 631-8814 for a free estimate tailored to your property.

What's the difference between a cedar privacy fence and a pressure-treated pine fence in Kansas City?
Cedar is the neighborhood standard and holds its color and grain longer, but it costs more and needs regular staining to stay that way. Pressure-treated pine is stronger, lasts longer without staining, and costs less upfront. Both work in Kansas City. We can install either and help you pick based on your budget and how much maintenance you want to do.
My fence is leaning. Do I need to replace the whole thing?
Not always. If the posts are still solid and the rails aren't cracked, we can often reset the posts in concrete and straighten the run. If the posts are rotted at the ground line or the rails are split, replacement is the better spend. We'll assess it on site and tell you which makes sense. Call (816) 631-8814 to schedule.
Does Kansas City require a permit to install a fence?
Permit rules vary across Kansas City and the surrounding jurisdictions. Height, setback, and corner-visibility rules are set by the local building department and sometimes by HOA architectural standards in master-planned communities. We coordinate with your local building department and check your HOA covenants before we start. Call us with your address and we can tell you what applies.
A storm knocked down part of my fence. How do I file a claim?
We can help document the damage for your insurance claim. We photograph the broken posts, rails, and pickets and provide a detailed estimate for repair or replacement. We don't promise the claim will be approved or that the work will be covered, but we give your insurance company the facts they need. Call (816) 631-8814 to schedule a free damage assessment.
What kind of gate hardware do you use, and will my gate self-close?
We use self-closing and self-latching hardware on most residential gates. The hinge type depends on the gate style (cantilever hinges for heavier ornamental iron, V-track for sliding gates, standard butt hinges for wood). We size the closer and latch to your gate weight and use galvanized or powder-coated hardware so it doesn't rust. We'll walk you through the options on site.
I'm installing a pool fence. What codes do I need to meet?
Pool barrier requirements are set by Missouri state law and local code. We install pool fencing to meet those codes, but final determination rests with the authority having jurisdiction in your area. We can tell you what the codes require, but you'll want to check with your local building department or HOA for any additional rules. A barrier is required, but it is not a substitute for supervision.
How do I know where my property line is so we can install the fence on the right spot?
Work from your existing survey or deed. If you don't have a survey and want one, that's a job for a licensed land surveyor, not us. We install on the line you identify. Once you show us where you want the fence, we coordinate the Missouri 811 utility locates and set the posts.
